“Live The Sea With Those Who Live Off the Sea”. Tourism as a driver of sustainable development in coastal cities

Vivere il mare con chi non vive del mare. Il turismo come fonte di sviluppo sostenibile delle città costiere

Tourism is one of Italy's fastest growing and most profitable industrial sectors, with an estimated revenue of €189.1 billions. One of the important benefits of tourism is that, if it is properly developed around the concept of sustainability, it can greatly help justify and pay for conservation of natural and cultural resources of an area. We know much about negative effects of tourism, but tourism can have many positive effects on the protection and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems when it became “Ecotourism”. Ecotourism is now defined as "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education".
