Marine litter: from land to the sea and from sea to our table?

Rifiuti marini: dalla terra al mare e dal mare al nostro piatto?

In recent decades the sea has become the largest landfill of waste: sewage, garbage, bulky waste have been thrown overboard in the false belief that the greatness of the sea is able to dilute, recycle and absorb everything. The ecological and economic cost of this behaviour is enormous and requires immediate actions.

"How can we reduce the increasing amount of debris in our seas and coastline? Can fishing and aquaculture techniques support the development of circular economy in our seas?" You want to use your creative mind to develop solutions that best serve individual citizens, your local community and the European society at large. You want to make sure that your needs and expectations are taken into account when local, national and European decisions and innovations are being developed.

GET STARTED! FOLLOW OUR WORKSHOP AND SHARE YOUR IDEAS ONLINE

The workshop is organised by ISPRA (Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) using the World Café format, a social technology for engaging people in conversations that matter, creating a hospitable space of discussion.

It will involve citizens, scientists, business representatives, entrepreneurs, local authorities and policy makers in an open dialogue. Together, you will define a common vision and a roadmap of solutions and actions to face this challenge. The results, together with the outcomes of the other MARINA workshops in Europe, will be freely accessible on the MARINA Web Knowledge Sharing Platform, used for identifying lessons learned and best practices and disseminated at European policy conferences.
