Will the unique character of the Black Sea ecosystem survive climate changes?
Va supraviețui caracterul unic al ecosistemului Mării Negre schimbărilor climatice?
The Black Sea is the most voluminous anoxic basin and an ecosystem with unique particularities. One of the most intriguing facts about the Black Sea is its depletion of oxygen and its layers of water that almost never intermix.
The thin upper layer of marine water (up to 150-200m) supports the unique biological life in the Black Sea ecosystem. The deeper and denser water layers are saturated with hydrogen sulfide.
The Black Sea is also unique because it is semi-closed and its catchment area is five times bigger than the sea surface itself.
The most important environmental constraints of the Black Sea, still considered “the most seriously degraded sea on our planet” (GEF, 1992), consist of ecosystem changes.

GET STARTED! FOLLOW OUR WORKSHOP AND SHARE YOUR IDEAS ONLINE!
The workshop is organised according to the Focus Group method by Mare Nostrum NGO.
It will involve citizens, scientists, business representatives, entrepreneurs, local authorities and policymakers in an open dialogue. Together, you will define a common vision and a roadmap of solutions and actions to face this challenge. The results, together with the outcomes of the other MARINA workshops in Europe, will be freely accessible on the MARINA Web Knowledge Sharing Platform, used for identifying lessons learned and best practices and disseminated at European policy conferences.
