Responsible Research and Innovation for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture - Opportunities and Synergies between fisheries and aquaculture through an open science

Investigação e Inovação Responsável para uma Pesca e Aquacultura Sustentáveis - Oportunidades e sinergias entre o setor da Pesca e a Aquacultura nos Açores através de uma ciência aberta

Responsible Research and Innovation is one of the European policy challenges for the next years.  The Azores workshop aims to apply the RRI principles approach to the one of the main development and promising “Hot Topic” at regional scale: synergies between Fisheries and Aquaculture. Nowadays these two marine activities left the sectoral and individual approach to start to be seen as strongly dependent and complementary activities, especially from the socio-economic dimension. The Azores Marina Workshop (MML) will assemble different marine stakeholders around the same table to informally discuss the opportunities of cooperation between the fisheries and aquaculture from the social, economic, environmental, institutional and political level. FRCT’s objective to create a discussion environment to bridge marine stakeholders and help them to propose a common roadmap of RRI-driven solutions to improve the efficiency and sustainable use of the ocean.  This workshop represents a first exercise of approach to the RRI principles for the Region Scientific and Technological System and will feed the MARINA Knowledge Platform.

Fisheries and Aquaculture - Conflicts and Synergies: What are the opportunities for cooperation between the two activities?

Pesca e Aquacultura - Conflitos e Sinergias: Quais as oportunidades de cooperação  entre as duas atividades?

You want to use your creative mind to develop solutions that best serve individual citizens, your local community and the European society at large. You want to make sure that your needs and expectations are taken into account when local, national and European decisions and innovations are being developed.

The workshop is organised by FRCT – Fundo Regional para a Ciência e Tecnologia using the World Café methodology. It will involve citizens, scientists, business representatives, entrepreneurs, local authorities and policy makers in an open dialogue. Together, you will define a common vision and a roadmap of solutions and actions to face this challenge. The results, together with the outcomes of the other MARINA workshops in Europe, will be freely accessible on the MARINA Web Knowledge Sharing Platform, used for identifying lessons learned and best practices and disseminated at European policy conferences.
