Maritime transport can have different kinds of impacts: on the atmosphere with greenhouse gas emissions and on the sea with polluting emissions (tanks washing, fuel spills, etc.), on the quality life in port cities’ (traffic, pollutants emission in proximity of the houses, etc.); the mobility of people, and the development of tourism.

Maritime transport is a cross-cutting topic between maritime pollution, air pollution, planning of ports and connected infrastructures, citizens' quality life (in the cities with ports, tourists, etc.) involving the RRI dimensions and the different societal challenges. For this reason, the hot topic is relevant for MARINA and in Italy and in the Lazio region at the local level.
