Wave Energy in Ireland: Considering the Future - Perspectives on Policy

The development of wave energy technology presents a number of challenges, both in terms of technology and related regulatory frameworks.  To tackle these technological challenges, as in any R&D activity, significant funding and regulatory support is required.  In Ireland, policy is in place to promote and develop an indigenous wave energy industry.  However, voices in the industry identify the high risk nature of projects as an obstacle for access to funding, and to the continued development of the sector. Through dialogue with regulators, policy-makers and other stakeholders, critical challenges and appropriate policy measures / responses will be identified.
